‘At Van Dijck’s Home’: Contemporary Art in the Former Home and Studio of Alfons van Dijck

Veere  – To mark Open Monument Day, the former home and studio of Veere artist Alfons van Dijck will host the special exhibition ‘At Van Dijck’s Home’. From 12 to 20 September, works by contemporary Veere-based artists will be brought together with several works by Van Dijck himself.

The building that now houses Kunsthuis Veere was for many years the home and studio of Alfons van Dijck. He lived and worked here from 1919 to 1979. Van Dijck is known, among other things, for his paintings of Veere, floral still lifes and landscapes. For this exhibition, seven contemporary artists from Veere have selected works that connect with the themes Van Dijck explored throughout his career. Marion van Iren, Wilmi van de Wouw, Jan Luijk, Richard van Klooster, Addie Nieuwenkamp-Midavaine, Jan van de Broeke and Marijke Leertouwer demonstrate how these subjects continue to inspire artists today.

The exhibition takes on an added sense of significance as several of Van Dijck’s works temporarily return to the place where they were originally created. His paint box will also return to his former home and studio for the occasion. This creates a direct connection between the artist who lived and worked here for almost sixty years and the artists who are active in Veere today.
